Spread the Word to End the Word. KJ Taiwo is an 8 year old American kid who lives in Toronto, Canada. Born in Baltimore MD, USA, KJ is VERY active in all campaigns and happenings going on back home in the USA. KJ is the brother of a 22-year old Autistic brother once labeled medically as "severely mentally retarded."His brother Eni is now labeled " a young man with mild intellectual disabilities and Aspergers Syndrome."
KJ wants people to know that THE WORD "RETARDED" IS DEMEANING AND WRONG TO USE ON MENTALLY DISABLED OR CHALLENGED PEOPLE. EVEN PHYSICALLY DISABLED PEOPLE MAY HAVE MENTAL CHALLENGES TOO.
The Special Olympics campaign on March 31st 2009 says....."Our choice of language frames how we think about others. It is time to respect and value people with intellectual disabilities. It is time to accept and welcome us as your friends and neighbors."
8 year old KJ is our HERO IN CANADA! A TRUE AMERICAN AMBASSADOR. KJ wants us all to stop using the word "RETARD" to make fun of mentally challenged people even here in CANADA. KJ's campaign is sponsored by Keminications Public Relations and we welcome your comments.
KJ's "Uncle Tayo" is a QUADRAPLEGIC 39 year old man who lives in Nigeria, West Africa. On Saturday March 21st 2009, KJ learned some devastating facts about his uncle who has been sitting in that wheelchair with mild mental disabilities and major physical disabilities.
Uncle Tayo's accident was due to brain damage in a car crash caused by rioting students in 1978. HE HAD JUST TURNED 8 YEARS OLD on April 1st 1978. The accident was on April 28th 1978 and rioters pelted cars on the highways with huge rocks with one hitting KJ's uncle in the head and he has been disabled for over 30 years since.
On the morning of 3/21/09, KJ exclaimed "That is my age!" then BURST into TEARS! He felt very sad for his Grandma when he saw her caring for his uncle after living in Nigeria with his mom for 9 months in 2007.
KJ speaks about his own mentally challenged brother "Eni" being able to do many things other people can't do like programming computers, assembling furniture and solving video games puzzles to the end.
ACT NOW--Pledge your support to eliminate the demeaning use of the r-word. Tell us what you think. Post something on the wall, Share photos, videos and blogs for KJ's "Celebrate End the R-word Day in Canada" on 3.31.09! LET ALL OF US IN CANADA START NOW.....Start Posting!!!!!!!
